WHAT ARE CARBON OFFSETS

Carbon offsets are credits purchased from a carbon offset provider that enable them to conduct activities to reduce green house gas emissions on your behalf. Through programs such as tree planting, or the investment in clean energy technology, these offset providers allow you to become as close as possible to being carbon neutral.

CARBON NEUTRAL
Being carbon neutral is  about balancing out all of the activities  in our daily lives that have an impact on the environment. Your carbon footprint is the sum total of all of your activities, and can be approximated as the amount of tons of CO2 (carbon dioxide) that your day to day activities contribute to the atmosphere. These include driving your car, lighting your house, heating your house, air travel etc.

Carbon neutral means taking responsibility for the greenhouse gas emissions we create every day. The principle supporting Green Mortgages is simple. Climate change is a global issue, however each and every individual can do their bit to to reduce emissions or strive to cover their footprint. Green Mortgages makes achieving carbon neutrality a reality for your home.

HOW DOES GREENMORTGAGES HELP?

Green mortgages can help you become carbon neutral by donating a portion of the income generated by your loan to a carbon offest provid

Based on yearly average household consumption (2500 kwH of electricity and 2000 Units of Gas) the carbon emmision total is approximately 4 tonnes. If you use 50 litres of petrol on average per week, the total emmisions is closer to 10 tonnes per year.

To offset the impact of the above, it is estimated that 30 trees would be required.

What happens when I choose to go carbon neutral?

Once you purchase a carbon neutral loan package through Green Options you will receive a certificate that shows how many tonnes of carbon credits we have offset on your behalf. (for every $100,000 of loans settled, Green Options will plant 20 trees via an accredited Carbon offset provider. Offsets will be made each year for the life of the loan as your contribution towards a sustainable environment.)
